Indigenous Flag 3
Much like the “Indigenous Flag” and the “Red, White and Blue Indigenous Flag”, the use of various design works that come from basket works of my people and region are meant to stand as a representation of Indigenous marks. The minimalist aspect of the work, red outlines, is overwhelming surrounded by white. This stands as a symbol of how “whiteness” has overtaken Indigenous identity, stolen land and appropriated culture in the name of settler colonialism, religion and white supremacy. The outline stands as a metaphor to the existence of Indigenous people, culture, language, identity and the political and social capital we have in contrast to the settler colonialist power structures.
