Arbularyo: “Nanay (Mom)”
“Arbularyos” (“healers” in Tagalog) were often the first (if not only) line of medical care access for my family in their small village. To honor those within my family who share a similar moniker, I’ve created a series of prayer card portraits. As the current pandemic has depleted both access to supplies and facilities, these collages reflect some of the current homegrown/DIY solutions one may associate with not just treatments administered by the witch doctors from back home, but for those who are serving as first responders here in the United States.
