CARE BEFORE PROFIT
*Artwork: Lindsey Palar & Paul Vugteveen Paul lives with type 1 diabetes. For years, we’ve been removing predatory “Cash 4 Diabetic Test Strips” signs from our community. These signs prey on poor folks, forcing a choice between basic needs. We are reconstructing these signs into a message that calls for social change and attention to contradictions between capitalism and healthcare. Due to high cost and instability in our healthcare system, people with diabetes are forced to ration life-saving insulin and supplies. Capitalism prioritizes profits over people and disenfranchises marginalized communities. We know that there is a better way centered in care.
