I've learned that we all have the power to create resilience from our circumstances, as long as we find ways to keep our spirit alive. Picking up a paintbrush for the first time in the surgical ICU enabled me to thrive after surviving a gastrectomy, sexual abuse, 28 surgeries, coma, organ failure, six years unable to eat or drink, and the PTSD that comes from years of trauma, starting from age 18. Having been affected by both visible and invisible disabilities, I'm driven to provide hope, help and resources for others through the transformative power of the arts.
