For-profit prisons in the United States embody class warfare, racism, and greed of individuals who make money from caging people who can’t afford bail. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world, meaning 1 in every 32 Americans are under a form of criminal justice system control. This piece was inspired by friends and artists, who brought up important conversations changing the cultural belief ingrained in Americans about for-profit prisons being necessary and shift to the fact that people don’t belong in cages due to corrupt social inequalities especially not in a pandemic.
