The initial concept was to draw attention to the importance of hands during this pandemic; to highlight the importance of washing them, but also to raise awareness around the sacrifice of the hands of health workers. Hands can be utilised to raise fear, but also to diminish it. A simple act for the individual is an immense sacrifice for workers at the front line. My grandmother was a nurse and so this work is also an ode to the resilience of female health workers. The mirrored faces draw a thread between the women as both strong, capable worker, but also as giver of faith and hope, displaying immense grace under pressure in a time of crisis.
