Gateway to Help (2)

This particular baby wearing a handmade Chinese childrens’ clothing called the “肚兜” represents societal judgement and isolation towards Asian people. It’s not the first time racial discrimination has appeared after a disease outbreak. Remember the SARS outbreak in 2003 and the Ebola outbreak in 2013. Respectively, people who appeared to be of Asian or African descent were treated with fear, anger, and disgust. Treating Chinese people as the virus itself rather than victims of a disease recalls discriminatory stereotypes and laws of the past. If we tolerate racism, dark spots in history will become our reality once more.
