Heading out to the store, I caught a glimpse of my masked reflection in the mirror. My first thought about myself was “girl with a mask”. Immediately, I was reminded of the painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Vermeer, except an anxious and unsure version. I felt compelled to make this self portrait as a reminder of how important it is, now more than ever, to take our health and safety seriously. The mask is a symbol of how looking after each other is just as crucial during this time as looking after ourselves. (sharpie on paper)
