In this piece, I depicted health professionals as "heroes with lab coats," because I believe that during a pandemic like this, doctors are saving humanity through their countless efforts. Over the course of this month, I have seen a significant amount of images of doctors worn out and tired from the late night work they have been doing, and in some images, the safety goggles they were wearing all day left scars in their faces. Not to mention, because nurses have had to wash their hands every time they met with a patient, many of them are having to deal with their skin peeling off, especially because of how dry they have become. A significant number of these images I found were on Instagram and in news headlines. After seeing just how much these doctors are facing, I felt that it was appropriate for myself to show respect for their service. While I may not be able to express my appreciation for our healthcare workers in person, I figured this was the least I could do. I hope that this piece serves as a reminder for people about the importance of science and the people that contribute to it. Additionally, I hope that doctors find our artwork and recognize our gratitude for them, even while we are sitting in our homes.
