La Llorona
The border wall is monotonous, but not impervious. The wall appears solid, yet there is a glimpse--both through the posts and broken shadow--that this politicized structure is not as strong as it appears. The story began with a cattle fence, which my grandfather and father in their youths stepped one-foot-over-the-other to get tortillas in Tecate. On a quest for myself, I am fatally and fatefully drawn to this steel siren. But steel rusts.
