A Lament is to mourn somebody in song. “Thought I’d see you one more time again,” I cried when my first friend died of Covid19. These lyrics from James Taylor’s Fire and Rain are rendered using a system I created of transposition-by-color for payana (how my grandmother’s generation said piano) and B flat trumpet. Moving forward, many loved ones are missing. We mourn and celebrate them in song. I repeat the lyric 3 times as incantation for my nuclear family of three.
