Reconnecting With Family History

This portrait explores my process of reconnecting with my family history as a third-generation Korean-American through my maternal grandmother, who immigrated from Korea in 1964. Even though I saw my grandmother often enough in my early childhood, we were separated by language, lifestyle, and technology. During the pandemic I attempted to bridge the gap between our distinct and evolving personal histories through photography, and in the process began reconnecting with my Korean-American perspective and identity.
