Reconnecting with My Cultural Roots
Reconnecting with my cultural roots. Over quarantine I’ve gotten the chance to reflect on my disconnection from my history as an Afro-Caribbean woman as well as the disconnection from Black artistic expression. This photo displays me gazing at a painting of three Black women in natural Bantu knots claimed by the Zulu people of South Africa. The hairstyle is considered powerful and believed to have sacred spiritual energy due to its proximity to the heavens.
