Reconnecting with Roots
This is a photo of my mother, Brie. I wanted to do very little photoshopping and editing on this piece because of how lovely her melanin pops in the sunlight. Living in a society, where it's a struggle to find photographers who can properly capture the color of black skin is a hassle. Typically, it ends up becoming over lightened and too saturated or way too dark. That being said, it makes me happy to know that I have been able to capture the essence of my mother and her beautiful black skin - since a small handful of photographers are able to.
