During the lockdown phase of the pandemic, I was unable to photograph the friends and street subjects I was used to shooting. Instead, I learned to experiment within these new limits, unearthing and exploring new themes of culture, family, and identity through portraiture. I created this self-portrait as a way to express the feelings of darkness and isolation during the pandemic that ultimately led to a new understanding of myself and my artistic process.
