I chose to harken back to a propaganda poster from the Great War, where people were encouraged to start a victory garden and the slogan was “Sow the seeds of victory”. I have always loved the little anecdote that Mr. Roger’s says his mom told him where during a tragedy, always “look for the helpers“. When the pandemic first began I felt helpless and then I stumbled on making masks because I have friends and family all over the United States who are healthcare providers and they were desperate for something that would help their PPE last a little longer, so I started sewing. And that’s when I found a felt a little more helpful rather than helpless and that’s what the subject of my poster is.
