Honor your grandparents & stay home
I wanted to mimic Alexander Rodchenko’s famous style but also bring awareness to the Navajo Nation especially with the spread of COVID-19. I created a poster depicting my great grandfather who was one of the original Code Talkers of WW2, I wanted to appeal to the Natives sense of respect for the elderly and create a poster that makes them want to stay home for the safety of our grandparents. I made the poster using constructivist ideals and type although I wrote out the call to action using the Navajo language, It translates to “Respect and honor our grandparents by staying home” the word “Sinida” basically means to ‘Stay Put” and I wanted that to be the main focal point of the poster aside from my Cheii (grandpa), which I thought brings a stronger sense of appeal.
