This is a portrait of Halleh Akbarnia, an Emergency Medicine Physician, who stepped out of her comfort zone to share a now viral story of humanity and hope fighting on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been so inspired these past months of seeing the courage, selflessness, compassion, and patience displayed by health care workers everywhere. But the story that Halleh shared really painted a face (ironically) to these health care heroes. When I was kid I loved collecting and trading baseball cards, and sharing stories of my baseball heroes and their amazing feats with my friends. It is my hope today that the stories of these healer heroes can be heard shared with millions of people worldwide. Halleh and all health care physicians will tell you that they never seek attention or any sort of fame, it is the work that they signed up for and what they love to do....that is the heart of a physician.
