We Will Overcome

This image shows a nurse in PPE, crying for the state of the world. The position of the elements of the piece also have symbolism; the nurse is in an american traditional style vignette and wearing a vintage style cap to represent the fact that medical workers have historically always been there caring for us. The flower in the design is meant to represent the American Traditional “Rose of No Man’s Land” piece, which honors those that saved lives during WWI. This seemed appropriate as fighting this virus has been compared to fighting an invisible war. The world is behind her for two reasons; the first being that healthcare workers should know that the world is standing by and behind them, and they should know how important they are. The other being that she is in the foreground, on the front lines. “We will Overcome” was included because America and the world will heal and overcome this situation thanks to the tireless efforts of those in the medical field.
