My artwork “Debt Sentence” represents my story about the struggles one faces in pursuit of a higher education. There has consistently been a barrier between us and higher education because of money as knowledge has its price. The fear of student debt alone, cages many in a prison. The words “debt sentence” is heavy and contrasts with the image that is simple which amplifies the struggles behind a seemingly uncomplicated topic. As a topic often overlooked, my intention with this artwork was to acknowledge the obstacles people have faced and continue to face today in their journey towards higher education.
