In Pursuit of Humanness
When COVID-19 made its way into the western regions of the world, xenophobia against Asians was the most rampant I’d ever seen. It evolved from little jokes about Asians and wet markets to actual hate crimes. We were seeing Asian people being attacked on subway platforms, stabbed in broad daylight, and, in my opinion, the most horrific: “89 year-old Asian woman attacked and set on fire in New York City”. Americans who felt masks were an infringement of their freedom and their constitutional rights were often the same people to blame every single Asian person in America for COVID.
