In Pursuit Of Protection

Black transgender women have experienced violence and poverty for years. In 2015, at least 21 trans women were murdered. Nineteen of them were women of color. Transgender youths also risk potential rejection and violence at home, making them more vulnerable to homelessness. Looking back on historical events including the LGBTQ+ community, and looking at where we are now, it is very clear that their pursuit of justice all has to do with a lack of protection. Besides the support of social justice groups, black transgender women aren’t being protected. Not by police, not by laws, and not by the world.
