Light pollution
Light pollution is redundant, unnecessary, or obtrusive artificial light. Light pollution is caused by the use of outdoor lights such as lampposts, wall lanterns, and etc. when the lights are not necessary. Badly designed residential, commercial, and industrial outdoor lights contribute a heavily towards light pollution. Excessive amounts of light pollution have a damaging aftereffect. Unshielded light fixtures emit about half of their light upwards. I am in pursuit of this because this is a waste of energy, disrupts ecosystems, doesn’t allow people to see stars with the naked eye, adverse health effects and interferes with astronomical research. Light pollution is unnecessary energy that contributes to sleeping disorders. Nocturnal animals are active at night, but due to light pollution, it alters their nighttime by turning it into day. It doesn’t allow us to stare into the sky and see stars. Why let the stars be unseen?
