Remember Who You Are by William Prince
For me, my heritage is both something that I’m close to and inextricably removed from. On my mother’s side, I know both my Danish and Thai family pretty well and know where we’re from. On my father’s side, the story is a lot different. Slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, and the passage of time means we’ll never know where I’m from, and most of his family lives in the Midwest, so I’ve never met them. The pictures here are of some members of my dad’s family. Two of the pictures he has no idea who they are, only that they were some vague relation to him.
