Toxic Fruit
Chiquita Banana was a heavily advertised character in the 50's-60's to increase demand for this incredibly cheap (to Americans) fruit. A monoculture that destroys the land its planted making it ungenerative for future use. Meanwhile, the continual use of pesticides cause birth defects and cancer for the Central America populations whose local governments have been bought by Dole and Chiquita which is the only game in town. The corps own the local medical facilities denying illness returning employees to work. The corps also own the grocery stores where plantation workers are paid in vouchers. Nearby landowners get shut down for violations and must pay for potable water due to their wells drying up and risk cross contamination due to aerial pesticide use. This illustration is based off the "Banana Land" documentary.
