Yellow Fever
The fetishization of Asian men and women continues to be a problem and is rooted in deep history. The "Dragon Lady" or "Lotus Blossom" trope as seen in "Miss Saigon" or in works by Anna May Wong are hurtful to Asian women, treating them as immoral temptresses or submissive women. Asian people find themselves objectified by their white counterparts and are perceived as skin-deep. My parents are not your evil temptresses or your shy plaything. They are immigrants. They are compassionate, driven, hardened by turmoil and racism in a country was supposed to uplift them from their war-torn motherland.
